The 17 Verses Podcast: Distilling the Qur'an One Day at a Time

The 17 Verses podcast is a short, daily recitation of the Qur'an in spoken English. Our purpose is to enable busy Muslims (or non-Muslims) to be exposed to the Qur'an each day, delivered to their phones/iPads/etc. If you average approximately 17 verses per day, you can get through the entire Qur'an in about a year. The Qur'an can definitely feel intimidating but if it's taken in small pieces, it needn't be so. So join us as we go through the Qur'an every day.

Year 2 - Surah 21 (Al-Anbiyã’), Verses 11-29

As-salaam wa-alaikum, brothers and sisters.

Today's selection is from Surah 21, Al-Anbiyã’ or the Prophets, verses 11-29. Today's seelction discusses how prior nations were destroyed because of the iniquities they committed. If there was more than one God, the heavens and earth would be in a state of disorder and so all of Allah's Messengers are sent with one message - that there is no God but Allah.

As-salaam wa-alaikum, brothers and sisters.

Today's selection is from Surah 4, An-Nisâ or the Women, verses 24-42. These verses continue from the previous set, prohibited and permitted marriages, including marrying slave girls. Next is a brief mention of respecting one another's property rights and a warning to avoid heinous sins and jealousy. Men are declared as the protectors of women and rules of arbitration between family members are established. Lastly there is a discussion of the rights of people such as orphans and the needy, and how the other Messengers of God will be brought forth on the Day of Judgment.

I would highly recommend looking up the expert commentary for these passages as some of it may seem a bit controversial to a modern ear.
