The 17 Verses Podcast: Distilling the Qur'an One Day at a Time

The 17 Verses podcast is a short, daily recitation of the Qur'an in spoken English. Our purpose is to enable busy Muslims (or non-Muslims) to be exposed to the Qur'an each day, delivered to their phones/iPads/etc. If you average approximately 17 verses per day, you can get through the entire Qur'an in about a year. The Qur'an can definitely feel intimidating but if it's taken in small pieces, it needn't be so. So join us as we go through the Qur'an every day.

As-salaam wa-alaikum, brothers and sisters.

Today's selection is from Surah 27, An-Naml or the Ants, verses 15-44. These verses cover the story of Sulaimãn or Solomon on whom God bestowed much wisdom as well as power over jinns, men, birds, ants and the wind. It tells the story of the hoopoe bird which brought him news of the Queen fo Sheba, the communications between Solomon and the Queen of Sheba and her eventual embrace of God.

Tafseer for this Surah contains an explanation of the parable of the Ants and an explanation of the Hoopoe bird.
